Actual Lightning Strike
CCC Water Oak on 18th Hole

There was a huge Live Oak tree that was struck by lightning during the playing of the 2019 Women’s US Open Golf Tournament. The tournament was held at The Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina. The tree was located on the 18th hole by the green.

I was approached to turn a commemorative bowl and a large platter that are to be put on permanent display in the clubhouse. As a result, I was able to salvage the entire tree.

What adds to the story is that the gentleman that was instrumental in getting the tournament to be played there was in fact struck by lightning twice in his lifetime. He unfortunately passed away prior to the start of play.

I already have several reservations for pieces to be made from the wood from the tree. They include bowls, from small change bowls to large salad bowls, platters and I even have a commission for a cremation urn.
